Keratin Treatment at Home

Homemade Keratin, Your Personal Hair Spa. Creating a homemade keratin treatment involves using natural ingredients that believed to provide similar benefits to commercial treatments. While these DIY treatments may not produce results as dramatic or long-lasting as professional products, they can still help nourish and improve the condition of your hair. Here’s a simple recipe for a homemade keratin treatment.

Ingredients:

Coconut Milk: 1 cup

Coconut Oil: 2 tablespoons

Honey: 2 tablespoons

Apple Cider Vinegar: 1 tablespoon

Cornstarch: 1 tablespoon

Instructions:

Mixing the Ingredients:

In a bowl, combine the coconut milk, coconut oil, honey, apple cider vinegar, and cornstarch. Stir well to ensure all ingredients are thoroughly mixed.

Heat the Mixture:

Transfer the mixture to a small saucepan and heat it over low heat. Stir continuously until the cornstarch dissolves, and the mixture becomes smooth. Do not let it boil.

Cooling the Mixture:

Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature. Make sure it’s not too hot before applying it to your hair.

Preparation:

Before applying the treatment, shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo to remove any product buildup.

Application:

Section your hair and apply the homemade keratin treatment evenly, starting from the roots to the tips. Make sure each strand is coated.

Cover and Wait:

Cover your hair with a shower cap and let the treatment sit for about 30 minutes to an hour. This allows the ingredients to penetrate the hair shaft.

Rinse:

After the waiting period, rinse your hair thoroughly with lukewarm water. You don’t need to use shampoo again at this point.

Air Dry or Blow Dry:

You can either let your hair air dry or use a blow dryer. If you choose blow dry, set it to a low heat setting.

Style as Desired:

Style your hair as usual. You can use a flat iron to achieve a smoother, straighter look.

Remember that results may vary, and it’s essential to do a patch test before applying any homemade treatment to ensure you don’t have any adverse reactions. Additionally, the effects of homemade treatment may not be as long-lasting as professional ones, so you may need to repeat the process regularly for continued benefits.
